"I'm on the edge of glory, and I'm hanging on a moment of truth
Out on the edge of glory, and I'm hanging on a moment with you"
Lady Gaga and her father wrote "Edge of Glory" on the piano one night, about her grandpa while he was dying. Gaga said the inspiration behind the song was the relationship between her grandparents. "They had been married for 60 years, and my grandma used to tell me about my grandpa sleeping in a car on the street just so he could be near her - they were Italian and very strict so there was no way grandpa was going to be sleeping over at grandma's house when she was a kid. When I saw her say goodbye to him, I realized that in that moment, they both acknowledged that they had won at life because they had won at love with each other."
The song is about when she watched her grandpa die, she believed that he loved her grandma. She realize that he was a champion in the life and that was when he was able to go to the edge of glory that represents being on the edge of that glorious moment.
We all know that Gaga is famous for her - shall we call it WOW - lyrics, performances, clothing and music videos. I personally think this is one of her best songs. The meaning behind this song is making this song even more beautiful. Once again there is a lot of other people who makes accusations and ridiculous comments about this song, but when I saw the meaning I knew it was something I had to try.
This is not country - its pop - but I tried it anyway. I've lost my grandpa when I was still very young so I did not really know him at all. I wish I did. But this is for all of those who lost a loved one.
"I'm on the edge, the edge, the edge,
The edge, the edge, the edge, the edge
I'm on the edge of glory and I'm hangin' on a moment with you"
